Today’s machine learning technologies are limited compared to human intelligence. At Numenta, we have built a roadmap to machine intelligence that is based on years of fundamental neuroscience research. We are looking for an outstanding technical writer to help us articulate our progress along that roadmap. Through research papers, conference publications, and technical blogs, this person will help us expand our reach and further our efforts in neuroscience-inspired machine learning research.
As a successful candidate, you will have a passion for scientific and technical writing paired with an ability to understand and explain complex algorithms and technical material. You will bring an understanding of machine learning algorithms, and a belief that the best way to build truly intelligent machines is to leverage neuroscience-based principles. You will work with a small team of researchers, engineers and marketers who are driven to apply innovative new technologies to move machine intelligence to the next stage.
This full-time, salaried position will report to the VP of Marketing. Numenta is located on the San Francisco Peninsula in downtown Redwood City, a short walk from the Caltrain station. Proximity to the Bay Area and an ability to work in Redwood City at least two days a week is preferred for this position.
Responsibilities
- Produce technical content to showcase Numenta’s work.
- Create figures to include in publications.
- Participate in all Numenta research meetings.
- Produce meeting write-ups for selected topics.
- Provide technical input on company content (videos, web pages, news items).
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years experience writing for a technology company.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Willingness and ability to manage a diverse portfolio of work and simultaneous projects.
- Demonstrated ability to think critically and articulate complex concepts.
- Experience creating figures and complex plots.
- Knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence systems landscape.
- Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by date of hire to work in the Numenta office.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with LaTeX.
- Track record of publications in technical conferences and journals.
- Neuroscience knowledge.
- Working knowledge of Numenta’s research papers.
- Experience with Python, Python visualization libraries (such as matplotlib) and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- An ability to create charts in Python and run simple python simulations.
- Ability to simplify equations for the purpose of explanation.
