Description:

RETINAL SIGNAL PROCESSING GROUP

We study neural processing of visual stimuli by the retina. As an animal model we use zebrafish because these animals are highly visually oriented and can genetically be modified. At present we have mutated zebrafish with defects in retinal processing. These fish are tested in behavioral tasks using optokinetic and optomotor assays. Furthermore, the electrical responses of the eye are evaluated using ERG measurements and the morphology of the retina is studied using morphological techniques. Single cell electrophysiological methods (patch-clamp, intracellular, extracellular, multi-electrode) are used to analyze the properties of single retinal neurons.
