General Summary

The School of Biological Sciences at Illinois State University in Normal, IL (https://biology.illinoisstate.edu/) invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track position, in NEUROETHOLOGY at the level of Assistant Professor.

We seek candidates conducting cutting-edge research in neuroethology that complements our existing research programs in neuroscience, physiology, and behavior using invertebrate and vertebrate systems. Candidates using vertebrate or non-traditional model systems are encouraged to apply. Candidates should be able to contribute to undergraduate courses in neuroscience and animal behavior for biology and biomedical students, and to develop a graduate course in their area of expertise.

Successful candidates are expected to establish a rigorous, nationally recognized, extramurally funded research program, publish scholarly research in quality, peer-reviewed journals, advise and mentor B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. students in their research groups, and provide effective, evidence-based instruction in their discipline. A Ph.D. in the specific field of biology or a closely related field and a minimum of 2 years of post-doctoral research experience by position start date are required.

 

Additional Information

The School of Biological Sciences comprises 26 faculty, approximately 65 graduate students (M.S. and Ph.D.), and over 750 undergraduate majors. It offers a collegial environment fostering collaboration among cell and molecular biologists, physiologists, organismal biologists, and neuroscientists as well as opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations within the college or the university. Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in the specific field of biology or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of post-doctoral research experience by position start date.
  • State law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement of this position.

 

Work Hours

  • Varies depending on class hours and office hours.
