Faculty of Psychology

The Institute of General Psychology, Biopsychology and Methods of Psychology, Chair of Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience (Prof. Katharina von Kriegstein) offers, subject to the availability of resources, a project position as

Research Associate / Postdoc (m/f/x)

(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

The position starts as soon as possible and has a duration of 3 years. The period of employment is governed by § 2 (2) Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). The position is funded by the German Research Foundation and will provide an excellent opportunity to work within an interdisciplinary environment of cognitive and computational neuroscientists, psychologists and physicists.

Tasks:

The goal is to test predictions of models of bilingual semantic representations in the brain. The successful applicant will examine how action-related semantics are similarly and/or differently represented in the brain for one’s native language compared to a second language, and whether sensorimotor experience leads second language representations to become more similar to native language representations. This will be accomplished by conducting behavioural, fMRI, and EEG experiments. The fMRI work will involve the use of multivariate pattern analysis (MVPA), and the EEG work will make use of time-frequency analysis methods. The candidate will be part of a team of experimental and computational researchers at TU Dresden and will be jointly supervised by Dr. Brian Mathias and Prof. Dr. Katharina von Kriegstein.

Requirements:

  • university and PhD degree in Cognitive Neuroscience, Psychology or a similar experimental background;
  • good prior publication record;
  • strong expertise in the analysis of behavioural and neuroscientific data;
  • advanced programming skills in Matlab, R, or Python;
  • high proficiency in both verbal and written English;
  • ability to work cooperatively with colleagues at all levels.

The TU Dresden is one of eleven German Universities of Excellence. It provides an outstanding scientific infrastructure and ideal environment for interdisciplinary cooperation. Experiments will be performed at the Neuroimaging Center (http://www.nic-tud.de). The Neuroimaging Center is equipped with a research-only MRI machine (Siemens 3T Prisma), MRI-compatible EEG, eye-tracking and noise-cancellation headphones, and a neurostimulation (TMS/tDCS) unit. All experimental facilities are supported by experienced physics and IT staff. For computational work, the group has access to the Centre for Information Services and High Performance Computing at TU Dresden.

The TU Dresden is an equal opportunities employer, committed to the advancement of individuals without regard to ethnicity, religion, gender, or disability. In case of equal suitability, people with severe disabilities or those with equivalence to the German Social Code IX (SGB IX) will be preferred for employment.
