Senior Embedded Engineer
Electronics · Alameda, CA · Full time
Science is an early stage company developing technologies for a range of serious unmet medical needs. We are unafraid to take difficult technical risks, secure in the knowledge that with a clear understanding of what we are doing and with support from powerful modern tools, more progress is possible than might be immediately obvious. Regardless of role or team, the two most important factors we look for in a candidate are evidence of exceptional ability and the addition of positive energy to the group. As a small, very early stage team in a largely unstructured environment, the ability to independently orient yourself to the problems that need to be solved and then follow through is essential.
We are looking for an experienced embedded software and electrical engineer who will be responsible for leading planning and execution of a new computing platform to control neural interface implants. This role is highly interdisciplinary, and you will be expected to learn new things by working with biologists, optical engineers and microfabrication teams. The ideal person for this job is willing to grow by diving head first into hard projects without a safety net.
Role responsibilities:
- Understand product functional requirements and design embedded computing systems to meet those needs.
- Help recruit, select and evaluate a team of skilled electrical and software engineers.
- Work with vendors to develop or license IC core IP and other assets as needed.
- Lead from the front by being immersed in the day-to-day implementation of the systems you are responsible for delivering.
Key qualifications:
- Evidence of exceptional ability as an engineer and leader.
- A deep fundamental understanding of embedded computing and an experience with a range of systems (i.e., VxWorks, Integrity, the L4 family, or similar.)
- 5+ years embedded computing engineering experience.
- Familiarity with the latest thinking on correctly implementing safety-critical systems.
- Experience with the ARM IP ecosystem.
- BS in Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience shipping real-time high-reliability systems.
- A successful track record of taped-out silicon that worked.
- Experience in wireless communication or power delivery.
