Job Summary
We are looking for an established R&D leader in translational neuroscience. We are currently focused on improving the lives of stroke or spinal cord injury survivors through motor control restoration. Our NeuroLife work has been published in Nature, featured in the media including CBS This Morning, CNN, the Washington Post, and recipient of multiple R&D100 awards. This position will be remote (U.S) but will work closely with a team located in Columbus, OH.
Technical Lead – Neurotechnology (internal Biomedical Engineer Researcher V). We work between research, development, and industry, translating cutting-edge innovations into impactful solutions and driving them into commercial platforms. In this role, you will lead the definition and technical execution of the neurotech portfolio, serve as a thought leader, and identify technology trends. In addition, you will guide, shape, and open new avenues of revenue for Battelle
Major Responsibilities
- Lead our R&D efforts in unlocking the translational potential of cutting-edge neurotechnology and motor function restoration technologies. Develop the technology to drive a clinically viable product to the market for restoration of movement in humans in the near term.
- Design, lead and analyze clinical feasibility research studies.
- Shape, ground, propose, and lead R&D projects with clear objectives and milestones. Determine the technical strategy to balance near-term neuro productization with long-term development goals for becoming the world leader in commercial R&D for neurotechnology.
- Inform product development of neural technology sub-systems, e.g., neural assistive and neural rehabilitative systems. Lead the development of next generation non-invasive neural interfaces that have the same fidelity as invasive technology. Take that technology. through initial clinical trials in the near term.
Demonstrate the technical & regulatory requirements and processes associated with medical device development. - Perform as lead subject matter expert when engaging with some of the largest medical device and consumer manufacturing companies who are our partners.
The Following Is Required
- Ph.D. in an Engineering, Life Science, or related discipline relevant to neurotechnology and 10+ years of experience in the field, with an emphasis on the central nervous system and/or motor function or sensory restoration or M.Sc.Eng. and 15+ years of experience in the field, with 10+ in work relevant to neurotechnology
- Well established in the field through publications, conference presentations, patents, etc.
- Excellent technical writing skills
- Experience leading R&D project teams in early-stage innovations
- Experience leading R&D teams in medical device commercialization
- U.S. citizenship is required.
The Following is Desired
- R&D into other areas such as brain health (Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, mental health, etc.)
- Experience in advanced neural signal processing with machine learning algorithms
