As our flagship technology matures, we are looking to expand applicability of our technology to new domains.

We are expanding our engineering team and currently seeking to appoint an Electronics Engineer for the Advanced Technologies division in our Melbourne facility.

Role: Electronics Engineer, Advanced Technology Team

Our Advanced Technology team is exploring the unknowns of what whole brain bi-directional data transfer can unlock. Applications of our technology are boundless, and we are currently investigating a foundational set of treatments for a variety of neurological conditions.
As an Electronics Engineer, you will be contributing experience, creativity, and insight into the development of novel, ground up technologies. We are growing our team rapidly and this is an opportunity to shape state-of-the-art medical devices for the future.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop hardware for active implantable medical products performing functions such as stimulation, recording, power management and communications.
• Develop formal test protocols for analogue and digital hardware
• Coordinate preliminary benchtop testing, preclinical testing, verification, and validation activities and create, review, and execute qualification and validation protocols on process/test equipment
• Participate in design reviews to give insight into electrical design considerations
• Produce and develop documentation in line with quality management systems (QMS) for requirements development, design, verification, and manufacture of future Synchron products
• Perform other tasks in the area of hardware, firmware, software, and signal processing as may become necessary.
• Work closely with global manufacturing suppliers, consultants, and quality assurance personnel to provide support to the design and development process.
• Prepare written communications to convey information effectively through formal and informal documents with team members, designers, technicians, and other technical personnel, both internal and external to Synchron, using appropriate communications protocols.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronic or Mechatronic Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience working in Product Development/R&D in a medical device environment
• Experience using PCB Design and Analysis software (Cadence or SPICE preferred)
• Good knowledge of electrical components and design
• Experience in working with multidisciplinary teams, i.e Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, and Software
• Must be highly organized with the ability to manage numerous projects/tasks simultaneously and effectively prioritize projects and tasks.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication, documentation, and presentation skills
• Problem solving mindset

Preference will be given to candidates with the following experience:

• At least 7 years of experience in the specification, design, and development of electronic hardware and firmware in implantable medical devices
• Experience using electromagnetic computational modelling software (Ansys HFSS and ZMT Sim4Life preferred)
• Experience with neuromodulation, neuromonitoring, or neurointerventional technologies
• Detailed knowledge of medical device standards including IEC 60601-1
• Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
• Familiarity with Design Control, Verification & Validation, and Risk Analysis Models
• Good knowledge of biocompatible materials
