Science and Technology Journalist
This position is available at the Institut de Neurosciences des Systèmes (http://ins-amu.fr/), Aix-Marseille University, France, to support communication of the scientific achievements of the Human Brain Project in its final phase.
Job:
- Writing of popular science articles, press releases, interviews and other formats
- Contribute to print and digital media production to present HBP’s work
- Editing of texts from other team members about scientific topics
- Identifying research and technology topics with potential for high reach in science and general public media to promote the HBP’s results and achievements to broader audiences
- Work as integral part of the central HBP and EBRAINS communication teams
- Supporting scientists with media enquiries
- Help expand the international press mailing list in different media categories
- Assist with the organisation of large media events and press briefings
Profile:
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of writing about life science or technology-related topics in an engaging manner for lay audiences as well as general knowledge of the main developments in either computing, AI and robotics or in the life sciences.
- University degree (Master) in, e.g., computer sciences or other technologyrelated fields, natural sciences, medicine, journalism or related-fields
- Excellent proficiency in spoken and written English
- Several years of relevant professional experience in science and technology communication and/or journalism, working for media organizations, press departments of research institutions or other science-related organizations
- Appealing, convincing and target-group specific writing style
- An eye for detail and accuracy as well as the bigger picture
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Basic knowledge of image editing and design programmes beneficial
- Experience in book editing beneficial Applicants should submit three samples of their work (e.g., published articles, press releases).
Terms of salary and employment
The contract is 1 year, renewable, with a salary based on experience.
Starting date: Immediately.
