Rune Labs
Rune is a brain data company empowering the development and delivery of precision neuroscience therapeutics. We work with a wealth of newly-captured, high-fidelity neural recordings to advance data-driven therapies for diseases such as Parkinson’s, OCD, Depression, and other neurological conditions. Rune aims to fill the gap in software and data support for next-generation neuroscience therapeutics, and expand the benefits of precision medicine to the millions of patients with neurodegenerative and psychiatric diseases. We’re already generating revenue and are well-funded by top-tier investors.
Rune’s first-in-class precision brain data software platform integrates electrophysiology, brain imaging, and device data together with wearable data and clinical labels. The combination provides researchers, drug developers, and clinicians with the tools to guide treatment, uncover hidden disease phenotypes, and design better-targeted therapies.
The Role
This is a temporary (one-year), full-time position on our Neuroscience team, where you will work hands-on to support a trial to identify electrophysiological fingerprints of multiple sclerosis (MS).
If you have research experience in human electrophysiology and want to gain a foundation in operating clinical research trials with an eye to translational research, this is an ideal opportunity.
For the moment, this is a temporary position; longer term, there might be the opportunity for this to turn into a permanent position at Rune, where roles could include analysis of data from on a variety of disorders including Parkinson’s disease, chronic pain, treatment-resistant depression, epilepsy, and other neurological conditions afflicting tens of millions of people. Our goal is to analyze these datasets to generate insights that will guide treatment, uncover disease phenotypes, and design better targeted therapies.
Core Responsibilities
As an electrophysiologist, you will have the opportunity to conduct research with patients in a clinical operating room setting. You will leverage complex, electrophysiology recording and stimulation equipment to conduct research and learn more about multiple sclerosis. In this role, you will:
- Operate and troubleshoot electrophysiological equipment in a clinical research setting. This includes operating equipment in tight quarters, awareness of sterility requirement, and the ability to rapidly troubleshoot common issues that arise when stimulating and recording neural activity, such as noise artifacts.
- Closely follow clinical research protocol and work in an organized and detail-oriented manner.
- Perform initial analysis of data using a combination of signal processing, statistics, and machine learning.
- Collaborate with academic and industry leaders to design visualizations and provide research reports.
Minimum Requirements
- Experience in human electrophysiology, especially prior experience working with and operating electrophysiology equipment; this role requires the capacity to troubleshoot connections, common artifacts, etc., in real time.
- Capacity to maneuver mobile electrophysiology equipment (up to 40 lbs).
- Some proficiency in Python.
- Expertise in signal processing, statistics, and/or machine learning.
- You must live in San Diego and be willing to travel to Carlsbad area to run experiments.
- You should currently be completing a PhD in neuroscience or related technical field.
Important Skills and Qualifications
- Experience with time series analysis, particularly with human neurophysiology and/or wearable data.
- Proficiency generating data visualizations for diverse audiences.
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- A real passion for human neuroscience and neuromodulation.
- High level of EQ and empathy.
