Position description
The Isacoff Group in the Molecular and Cell Biology Department at the University of California, Berkeley welcomes applications for an Assistant Project Scientist to perform research in the field of Neuroscience and Neuro-engineering. The successful applicant will use optical and pharmacological means of stimulation of dopamine receptors during functional imaging to study the neural circuits underlying learning and other complex behaviors under the supervision of Professor Ehud Isacoff. This position is represented by the UAW 5810 – RA union and is covered by the collective bargaining agreement.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct research related to the dissection of neural circuits in the mouse brain involving cortico-striatal networks during learning to operate a brain-machine interface.
- Performing experiments in awake behaving mice using calcium imaging and electrophysiology methods.
- Collaborate with and help train group members, potentially including graduate students, post-docs, and staff.
- Participate in lab meetings and give presentations at scientific conferences and workshops.

Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
- PhD or equivalent international degree or enrollment in PhD or equivalent international degree program.
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
- PhD or equivalent international degree.
Preferred qualifications
- 5 years of experience in neuroscience research
- PhD in Neuroscience, Computer Sciences or related/relevant field
- Experience with data acquisition, data management, and data analysis
- Experience with mouse genetics, optogenetics and opto-stimulation
- Experience in neuro-engineering.
- Demonstrated creativity and highly developed problem solving skills
- Superior academic performance and publication record
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and teamwork
- Demonstrated proficiency with common data science tools (e.g., Pandas, Keras, and Tensorflow) and languages (Python preferred)
