The Lukens lab (Lukenslab.com) in the Department of Neuroscience and the Center of Brain Immunology and Glia at the University of Virginia is seeking to hire a motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to investigate how the innate immune system contributes to Alzheimer’s disease and/or neurodevelopmental disorders.

Postdoctoral employment is temporary and is normally limited to an individual who has been awarded a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate within the previous five years and who will be involved in full-time research or scholarship at the University. Employment as a Postdoctoral Research Associate is viewed as training and is preparatory for a full-time academic or research career, is supervised by a senior scholar, and allows the appointee to publish the results of research or scholarship during the training period.

The University of Virginia is located in picturesque and historical Charlottesville, with outstanding schools, affordable housing, and is less than two hours from Washington, DC, and only an hour away from Richmond, VA.

This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: PhD degree prior to start date.

Experience: A background in Immunology and/or Neuroscience, as well as extensive experience in conducting independent research and supervising research trainees and/or technicians is preferred. In addition, candidates should have first author publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and effective oral and written communication skills. Candidates with experience in animal research, mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease, and/or rodent models of neurodevelopmental disease are also preferred.
