Nia Therapeutics is developing implantable brain stimulation devices to restore memory function after brain injury and degenerative disease. Our technology was developed at the University of Pennsylvania with funding from DARPA and our team has demonstrated proof of concept for improving human memory across multiple clinical studies. Our technology has the potential to help patients by improving their memory function, reducing disability and increasing on-the-job performance. Our team includes leaders in the fields of biomedical engineering, cybersecurity, neuroscience, and neurosurgery.
Job Summary
We are looking for a hands-on electrical engineer who enjoys solving challenging problems to develop implantable and wearable components of our smart, connected neurostimulation platform for treating memory impairment. You will take a leadership role in architecting and designing the company’s implantable and wearable components of our medical device from an engineering prototype to clinical evaluation and will work closely with multi-functional engineering teams and executive staff. You will gain a deep understanding of the system requirements and research, design, develop, build, and test the electrical components of the system.
Basic Qualifications
- BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- 5+ years of engineering industry experience
- Extensive experience with all phases of PCB design for highly resource constrained embedded devices
- Proficiency with PCB CAD tools
- Experience building hardware with MCUs and FPGAs
- Experience with embedded peripherals and communication protocols such as SPI and USB
- A track record of taking designs from an idea to manufacturing
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Demonstrated leadership experience
Preferred Skills
- Experience with building implantable devices
- Experience with wireless protocols, inductive communication and power
- Product development cycle experience from prototyping to manufacturing
- Knowledge of prototyping and manufacturing tools
- Experience in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience with standards for neurostimulator device development (ISO-14708 and ISO-13485)
- Ability to communicate with system users in clinical environments
Location
Nia Therapeutics has offices in Waltham, MA and Philadelphia, PA. Remote work is possible for the right candidate. Must be eligible to work in the US.
Travel
This position requires between 5-10% domestic travel, depending upon office location.
