Senior Mechatronics Engineer

Senior Mechatronics Engineer

Manhattan, NY      ·     Full time

Description

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineer to design and develop a robust image guided navigation system for our micro ECoG array that is safe, reliable, and highly precise. You will have ownership of this project from ideation to commercialization, implementing skills in hardware integrated systems while prioritizing a patient-first mentality.

This is an extraordinary opportunity to join our core team to help to shape the future of our company. Your work will see commercialization quickly so that we improve the lives of patients who live with neurological disorders in a matter of months and years, not decades.

This position will be on-site in Manhattan. We are unable to consider remote workers. You must be physically present in the US or Canada to apply for this role.

For more detail on our work, see our preprint here: https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2022.01.02.474656v1

You will:

  • Design and develop trajectory planning hardware for the minimally invasive and highly precise delivery of our micro ECoG array.
  • Integrate hardware with pre-/intraoperative imaging and patient planning software.
  • Complete hands-on assembly, integration and testing tasks while ensuring rigorous quality control is being enforced.
  • Collaborate with our highly accomplished team across the domains of hardware, software, data collection and analysis and V & V.
  • Participate in detailed, collaborative discussions about the impact of your designs on the overall BCI design. Such discussions are driven by the excellent, substantial feedback loop generated by our rigorous experiment schedule.
  • Collaborate with the rest of our team to publish and present our work.
  • Communicate project updates on progress, risks, options, barriers and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Create and update end-user technical documentation, product specifications and vendor procedures to ensure we are compliant with relevant regulations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ of mechanical engineering experience in industry.
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering or similar.
  • Experience with hardware integrated systems involving sensors, imaging systems and communications.
  • Experience writing control firmware and/or software.
  • Experience designing and manufacturing precision instruments, hardware, mechanisms, electromechanical systems, or automation systems.
  • Experience working with commercial surgical navigation systems.
  • Proficient in CAD (we use SolidWorks).
  • Track record of working towards accelerated timelines.
  • You should be comfortable with creative problem solving, collaborating, and taking charge of projects
