Communications Coordinator – 1 Position (part-time/contract)

 

Position Overview

The Ontario Brain Institute’s (OBI) Knowledge Translation and Outreach Program consists of Knowledge Translation, Communications, and Evaluation activities. Reporting to the Director, Integrated Discovery, the Communications Coordinator supports activities that increase awareness of brain disorders, their impact, and highlight the work underway in Ontario through OBI’s various programs. Working with the Knowledge Translation and Outreach team, the role supports the development and implementation of both strategic and responsive internal and external communications, media relations, social media, public relations, and outreach strategies.

 

Role and Responsibilities

  • Develop content to promote the open call for new research networks, including blog posts, social media, and marketing materials.
  • Support research, information gathering, and drafting content for OBI renewal application.
  • Provide ongoing communication support for OBI programs and activities, including the creation of content for social media, OBI’s website and blog, presentations, and newsletter.
  • Monitor media and social media to evaluate the impact of OBI’s marketing and communications efforts.
  • Support the implementation of OBI’s engagement strategy for renewal, including drafting reports, coordinating communication with stakeholders, developing presentations, and helping organize (virtual) events.
  • Work with OBI’s external communications provider to assist with the workflow and coordination of ongoing projects.

 

Experience & Qualifications

  • A team player accustomed to gracefully working with multiple stakeholder audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal and writing skills, and the ability to lead a wide variety of communications functions, including writing and editing clean, clear copy on a tight deadline.
  • Knowledge and/or passion for brain research and brain health.
  • Ability to develop excellent working relationships with partner organizations is critical.
  • University/College degree/diploma in Communications/Public Relations or related field
  • Minimum 1-3 years demonstrated experience with corporate communications
  • Prior experience with various social media channels and tools (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Hootsuite)
  • Experience with web and digital design is an asset
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task under tight deadlines
  • Experience with Government Relations and Media Relations, an asset
  • Ability to communicate in both French and English, an asset
