CYENS Center of Excellence (formerly known as RISE) is pleased to announce an open call for its Internship Program under the “iNicosia” project aimed at undergraduate and graduate-level students and early career individuals (1 to 2 years after graduation).
Designed to act as an integrator of academic research and industrial innovation, CYENS Centre of Excellence will use its Internship Program to inspire talented young researchers by exposing them to cutting-edge methods and Research in Interactive media, Smart systems and Emerging technologies.
Interns will have the opportunity to carry out research as part of the “iNicosia “ project, this is a flagship project aiming to create a parallel digital representation of the city, a Digital Twin, and an interactive 3D model of Nicosia. The iNicosia team consists of Visual Artists and Researchers interested in 3D Modelling, Visualization of Data, Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality. Interns will be introduced to the use of the latest methods and techniques in these fields and, in the center of Nicosia and will become part of CYENS’s lively ecosystem of academics, researchers, creative and onward-looking people, innovators, entrepreneurs and practitioners.
Details of the Program
A number of paid Internship slots are offered for full-time engagement. The duration of the internship may vary from 2 to 12 months. Interns will be expected to give an open presentation of their work and findings before the end of their time with CYENS.
Responsibilities
- Assisting iNicosia Project Team with day-to-day project tasks such as:
- Participation in daily drone flights in Nicosia Region with the role of Remote Pilot
- Assist the Drone Operator during flight and ensure the necessary equipment is available and ready for the daily flights
- Collection and storage of data at the centre for further processing on various software responsible for the creation of the 3D Model of the city
- Prepare weekly reports for the flights and data collected during the week
- Support the team with the 3D Visualization and Representation of the data by using various software
- Assist with other day-to-day tasks
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic photography, photogrammetry, and visual design concepts
- Familiarity with usage and development of Game Engines such as Unity 3D or Unreal Engine

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be able to work in CYENS’s premises in Nicosia and must be either:
- Undergraduate students (BA, BSc)
- Post-Graduate students (MA, MSc and PhD)
- Early career individuals (who have graduated from university within the last 2 years)
- For non-EU applicants an entry visa and/or work permit may be required
