Position Description

The Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for an Assistant Project Scientist or Associate Project Scientist in the Feldman Lab, in the area of in vivo 2-photon calcium imaging to study sensory coding in mouse cerebral cortex. The Feldman lab studies sensory coding, circuit function and plasticity in mouse whisker somatosensory cortex and how these are impaired in mouse models of autism.

The successful applicant will perform 2-photon calcium imaging and behavioral experiments to study neural coding and plasticity in somatosensory cortex of mice. They will also perform gene expression studies (e.g., using FISH) to characterize cell types of imaged neurons, and will characterize neural coding in mouse models of autism. They will design experiments in collaboration with the PI, and will conduct and analyze experiments independently. They will present their results at lab meetings, other Berkeley research meetings, and at national conferences. They will write up their results, in collaboration with the PI, for submission as scientific papers.
