Junior Mechanical Engineer

New York, NY        ·       Full-time      ·       Entry level

About the job

We are seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer to assist with the design and development of specialized surgical tooling that will be used in the implantation of our brain-computer interface (BCI).

This is an extraordinary opportunity for accelerated learning and career growth. Your work will see commercialization quickly so that we improve the lives of patients who live with neurological disorders in a matter of months and years, not decades.

This position will be on-site at our office in Manhattan. We are unable to consider remote workers. You must be physically present in the USA to apply for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Research and source existing microsurgical tooling and methods.
  • Assist with the design and development of custom fixtures for our specialized surgical tooling. This tooling is responsible for the assembly, inspection and mechanical testing of our highly precise delivery of our recording array onto the brain’s surface.
  • Complete hands-on assembly, inspection and testing tasks while ensuring rigorous quality control is being enforced.
  • Integrate manufacturing improvements, and ensure our surgical equipment is held at the highest standard of quality and safety for our patients.
  • Collaborate with our highly accomplished team across the domains of hardware, software, data collection and analysis and V & V.
  • Participate in detailed, collaborative discussions about the impact of your work on the overall BCI design. Such discussions are driven by the excellent, substantial feedback loop generated by our rigorous experiment schedule.
  • Collaborate with the rest of our team to publish and present our work.

Requirements

  • Experience designing hardware in industry, via full-time jobs, internships or other industry placements.
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering or similar.
  • Imaginative, flexible and ambitious.
  • Experience in CAD (we use SolidWorks).
  • You should be comfortable with creative problem solving, collaborating and working towards accelerated timelines.
  • Experience designing and building precision hardware, mechanisms, or automation systems is preferred.
  • Experience with manufacturing and testing best practices (Qualification and Acceptance Testing) is preferred.
  • Experience developing test methods, protocols, and reports is preferred.
