Rune is a brain data company empowering the development and delivery of precision neuroscience therapeutics. We work with a wealth of newly-captured, high-fidelity neural recordings to advance data-driven therapies for diseases such as Parkinson’s, OCD, Depression, and other neurological conditions. Rune’s first-in-class precision brain data software platform integrates electrophysiology, brain imaging, and device data together with wearable data and clinical labels. The combination provides researchers, drug developers, and clinicians with the tools to guide treatment, uncover hidden disease phenotypes, and design better-targeted therapies.

The Role

We’re looking for a technical leader who is passionate about quality and cares deeply about building robust automation tools and best practices that enable scale. This role will focus on our back-end APIs and data layer services, building a test strategy and an automation framework to test a high throughput, high volume data & ML pipeline. As one of the first test engineers on the team, this is a unique opportunity to shape our test strategy, implement it, and make a direct contribution to our mission to make brain data available at scale and build a precision neurology platform.

This role reports into Carolyn Ranti (Engineering Manager) and the the target start date is July 5th, 2022.

Compensation Range

United States: $155-172,000 USD + benefits and equity

Canada: $150-170,000 CAD + benefits and equity

Core Responsibilities 

• Test Strategy – Define, maintain, and execute an overall test strategy for the back-end services and data pipeline, ensuring product quality and high test coverage across the back-end and data layers 
• Test Plans – Write plans and test cases to test individual services, features, and products, to ensure requirements coverage and address historic or emergent issues from the field, working closely with software engineers, product management, and customer success
• Test Execution – write and execute tests, with heavy bias towards automation and integrating all tests into our CI/CD pipeline
• Product Quality & Compliance – Track quality, including test coverage, failure trends, incidents and resolution, performance baselines, documentation, and regulatory traceability matrices
• Test Evangelist – Maintain and champion awareness of industry trends in quality, specifically testing automation, processes, and techniques. Our engineers are responsible for writing tests, but that doesn’t mean they can’t benefit from your wisdom and perspective at all stages of our development cycle.

Minimum Requirements

• +4 years experience as a full-time Test Engineer role in a software company.
• Back-end automation testing experience; no specific technology required, but opinions and experience with some is required 

Important Skills and Qualifications

• Fluent verbal and written technical communication skills
• Can work within an iterative environment with short cycles. We release on-demand (daily) and need to be able to test in cycle with development
• High attention to detail and a pride in defining your own high standards of quality;  our standards should be higher than the minimum any regulatory program requires
• Form productive relationships with engineers, designers and product managers to make both your jobs easier and more rewarding; we’re a pretty warm and friendly bunch

Practical Stuff

• You must reside and be authorized to work in either the U.S. or Canada.
• We are a fully remote team within the US and Canada. We ask everyone to be available in general for collective team meeting hours from 10-3 Pacific (1-6 Eastern) daily. If you’re in San Francisco, our pet-friendly office is just a block from Golden Gate Park.
