Job description

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Core squad in our growing Software Engineering organization in Finland or the EU. The Core squad is a cross-functional team that owns the core Oura iOS and Android app experience. You will work closely together with the squad’s product manager, mobile app developers and developers in other squads to design and build the backend for many features that Oura users know and love.

While being located in Finland is a plus—Oura has offices in Helsinki, Tampere, and Oulu—it is not a requirement.

Your responsibilities include:

• Participate in the design and implementation of APIs for the mobile apps
• Take end-to-end responsibility for the backend side of features: once released, ensure that everything is working as expected and performance is good
• Debug and fix issues that pop up
• Together with the rest of the squad, take ownership of and help plan the squad’s roadmap
• With support from our platform squads, set up any required infrastructure on AWS for the features that you build
• Collaborate with people from other squads when working on cross-squad initiatives

• Python + Tornado + SQLAlchemy
• AWS + CDK
• Kotlin
• Swift
• Node.js + TypeScript
• REST

We would love to have you on our team if you have:

• A proactive attitude and take end-to-end ownership: taking a rough idea and working with others to turn it into a concrete feature or product
• Love to learn
• Have 4+ years of practical backend development work experience, especially with Python
• Enjoy writing code that is maintainable, testable, and easy to reason about
• Are pragmatic and have a delivery-focused mindset; you can handle tradeoffs between short-term goals and long-term debt
• Excellent communication skills are highly valued at Oura. English is the de-facto language; no Finnish is required.
• Enjoy mentoring and motivating other engineers
