Description
Performs electroencephalogram (EEG).
Essential Responsibilities
- Schedules, performs, monitors and records EEG as ordered by physicians both within Kaiser Permanente Medical Center and other local hospitals.
- Obtains patients medical history. Reviews patients medical record to obtain any pertinent information/history.
- Documents clinical condition of patient. Prepares patient for EEG procedures. Explains EEG procedures to patient. Applies recording electrodes to patient.
- Recognizes and understands EEG pattern displayed. Recognizes and notifies physician of normal and abnormal electrical activity. Prepares descriptive report of recorded activity for interpreting physician in accordance with appropriate standards.
- Assists department with integration of computerized EEG program.
- Maintains diagnostic equipment. Ensures related supplies are ordered.
- Participates in development of quality assurance measures for area of electroneurodiagnostic (END) testing.
- Responds to medical emergencies in the laboratory.
- Seeks opportunities to enhance learning new or changing techniques in specialty areas of technical testing. Keeps abreast of new products and protocols through membership in professional societies and/or attending professional seminars.
Experience
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum one (1) year of electroneurodiagnostics or related experience.
Education
- High School Diploma.
License, Certification, Registration
- Basic Life Support from American Heart Association
Additional Requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge of electroneurodiagnostics procedures.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in adaptability, change management, decision making, customer service, interpersonal relations, oral communication, problem solving, teamwork, and written communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in health care related field.
- Successful completion of electroneurodiagnostic (END) and/or (EEG) program.
- Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist (R. EEG T.) or Registered Evoked Potential Technologists (R. EP T.) or Certification in Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM) by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET).
- Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) by Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT).
