Job Description

The Department of Psychology and the Neuroscience Program at Providence College invites applications for two full-time, tenure track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor. The hires will be jointly appointed in Neuroscience and Psychology, with 2/3 Neuroscience and 1/3 Psychology teaching responsibilities.

Computational Neuroscientists and/or Neuroscientists/Psychologists with strong quantitative skills are highly encouraged to apply. However, both positions are broadly defined; potential areas of scholarship could include but are not limited to Computational Neuroscience or Psychology, Computational Modeling, Physiological Psychology, Behavioral Neuroscience, Cognitive Neuroscience, Psychoneuroimmunology, or Addiction. Applicants could conduct research by obtaining data from humans, rodents, other small animal models, or computer modeling. Candidates must demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentorship and demonstrate the ability to establish an active program of research involving undergraduates.

Providence College’s state-of-the-art Caiafa Center for Psychological Science and newly constructed Science Complex, scheduled to be fully renovated Fall 2023, features flexible human lab space, as well as a well-equipped animal vivarium and wet lab.

Tenure-track faculty appointments offer competitive salaries and full benefits. Additionally, the College provides reimbursement of relocation costs and offers travel funds for academic conferences. Faculty may also apply for a semester long paid sabbatical to support their scholarship before tenure.

Essential Duties

• In addition to engaging students in research, candidates will teach 5-6 undergraduate courses per academic year, including Behavioral Neuroscience (200-level course; 3 credits), Methods and Statistics in Psychology/Neuroscience (200-level course; with lab, 4 credits), Methods & Analysis: Behavioral Neuroscience (300-level course; with lab, 4 credits), a senior Neuroscience Capstone course (3 credits), and upper-level seminar in the candidate’s area of expertise (both at the 400-level).
• The opportunity to teach Neurobiology (300-level course; with lab, 4 credits) in the Department of Biology will also be available.
• Candidates will also be expected to assist with curricular development in the interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program which is currently undergoing an exciting shift from a certificate (minor) to a major.

Education And Experience Required

Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Psychology, or a closely related field.
