Antibody Discovery And Protein Engineering        ·       South San Francisco, CA       ·       Full time

At Alector, our mission is to develop therapies that empower the immune system to combat neurodegeneration. Our team is solely focused on developing treatments for some of the most challenging diseases facing our society. We are supported in this mission by experienced and accomplished scientists and clinicians, leading healthcare investors, and pharma company partners who share in our commitment to bettering the lives of patients.

As a Senior Scientist for the antibody discovery and protein engineering (ADPE) group, you’ll work closely with scientists in both Research and Development to advance Alector programs forward. As a member of the protein engineering group you will help to design, generate and engineer therapeutic biologics with favorable functional and develop ability profiles.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the reagent designs for antibody discovery and engineering, and hypothesis-driven experimental designs to gain mechanistic insights
  • Devise and execute antibody discovery campaign strategies including phage display and/or yeast display approaches to identify desirable antibodies against diverse targets
  • Apply computational tools and antibody engineering expertise to design and execute humanization and affinity and developability optimization
  • Serve as a program co-lead, coordinating antibody discovery and engineering data management, data analysis and presentations, in a collaborative and concise manner
  • Perform library design, construction, selection and screening
  • Lead target discovery and engineering workflows and contribute to key decisions on program progression with a fully integrated team
  • Initiate and support implementations for antibody engineering technologies
  • Help train and mentor junior scientists

During the first year, you will:

  • Devise and execute library-based antibody discovery and engineering strategies to identify antibodies with desirable characteristics against diverse targets
  • Serve as a program co-lead to collaborate with project teams by applying biotherapeutic cross-functional workflow and contributing to program progression decisions

We’d love to hear from you if:

  • Your academic background includes a PhD with 4+years, MS with 7+ years, or BS with 10+ years of relevant hands-on experience (preferably in industry) in biochemistry, molecular biology, protein engineering or related field
  • You have proven experience with antibody phage and/or yeast display
  • You have a deep understanding of protein biochemistry, including binding characteristics, structure and function relationships
  • You have strong expertise in a wide range of molecular biology and protein engineering techniques, including mutagenesis, molecular cloning, construct design, protein expression and purification, protein interaction characterization and DNA sequence analysis
