About the role:

The Senior Medical Director, MD is responsible for shaping and influencing the advancement of interventional therapies across all areas of the Peripheral Interventions business by rigorously and creatively applying scientific and medical expertise to ensure and oversee patient safety, guide strategy and drive innovation. This leadership position requires the highest level of expertise in strategic thinking, collaboration, talent selection and development, operations management, problem solving, and decision making.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • This leadership role has broad responsibility spanning both the Vascular (arterial and venous) and Interventional Oncology franchises. 
  • Provides the therapeutic area expertise throughout the device life cycle, including medical input to risk assessment and processes, product complaints, MDR reports, performance of medical health hazard assessment as part of the evaluation of potential product issues and reportability decisions, and serves as a medical advisor for regulatory issues. 
  • Writes/edits clinical and scientific reports and reviews and approves educational and reporting materials. 
  • Reviews and edits clinical trial protocols to insure accuracy, consistency with standard of care, logistical ease, and internal consistency with BSC Quality Policies. 
  • Determines the escalation of safety issues for communication and action to senior leadership; interacts with senior management concerning significant safety matters. 
  • Provides trending and safety signal detection and management assessment for the product’s lifecycle. 
  • Provides medical and scientific guidance to internal and external customers including clinical project teams, other functional units, study investigators and regulatory agencies. 
  • Provides high level operational support and oversight to teams regarding clinical trial planning, protocol development, investigator selection, training of internal and external personnel, medical monitoring for patient safety and trial conduct, individual and aggregate clinical study event review and approval, data analysis and interpretation, quality control, and presentation/publication. 

 

Required qualifications:

  • MD/DO experience, preferably with vascular and/or interventional oncology experience 
  • Experience leading and developing teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Detail oriented and goal-directed for development and attainment of deadlines for projects/document review and creation
  • Ability to build rapport with key physicians and medical leadership
  • Ability to translate voice of customer and market dynamics in to the organization – related to training and education
  • Ability to leverage knowledge and apply new ways of looking at problems, processes, or solutions to generate and champion new ideas, approaches, and initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability and experience to:
  • Maintain a strategic perspective, and make decisions and align activities with business vision and purpose
  • Effectively collaborate and influence a broad range of global stakeholders
  • Respond flexibly and positively under conditions of uncertainty or change
  • Lead courageously by confronting problems directly and taking decisive action

  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Medical scientific expertise in promoting patient safety with products worldwide
  • Proven experience in the medical industry (clinical, scientific affairs, medical safety, medical affairs, medical education, product management, product development, R&D, medical sales, or field clinical engineer) and in an FDA-regulated environment
