As a member of the Applied Research Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) team within Research and Technology, you will manage a portfolio of external research studies to enable research into future concepts, working with both external clinical sites and Medtronic scientists and engineers to help identify relevant research and technology concepts. Scientists and Engineers create our market-leading portfolio of innovations.
Neuromodulation therapies are used to treat individuals with movement disorders, chronic pain, epilepsy, urinary or fecal incontinence, and other potentially debilitating diseases. Medtronic’s Neuromodulation division is focused on identifying and developing therapy options to help relieve burden associated with these diseases. The Research and Core Technologies organization is focused on developing early-stage technology concepts and therapy innovations with the goal of delivering products that impact patient’s lives and drive Medtronic’s growth. Research and Core Technologies does this as part of the larger Neuromodulation Research & Development organization. The position has the opportunity to grow beyond study management to increased scientific responsibilities in therapy discovery.

Ability to travel up to 10%, domestically
A Day in the Life
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Managing external clinical-researcher led studies.
- Assisting with program strategy and coordination, including overseeing product needs, periodic reporting, and managing compliance of research studies.
- Coordinating with external clinical research sites
- Ensuring all approvals and reporting is up to date
- Collaborating with the DBS scientists and engineers on data and scientific findings
- Learning several enterprise software systems designed for portfolio review and management of research project status.
- Responsible for the initiation, design, development, execution, and implementation of scientific research projects. Analysis of key learnings.
- Investigates the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions and products.
- Plans and executes laboratory research.
- Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the art principles and theories and may contribute to scientific literature and conferences.
- May participate in development of patent applications.
- May coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts.
- May also support the release of investigational research systems and use in clinical studies.
- Initiating system ordering, portfolio system tracking, supporting system development, and managing contracting, milestones, and payments.
Typical Schedule:
- Weekly meetings with project teams
- Coordinating and facilitating project status
- Interaction with external clinical sites
- Regular review of project deadlines and need for updated documents
- Regular portfolio reporting
- Synthesize scientific findings in collaboration with the Research and Technology team
Must Have (Minimum Requirements):
To be considered for this role, the minimum requirements must be evident on your resume.
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of Research or Clinical experience, or advanced degree with 0 years of experience
Nice to Have (Preferred Qualifications):
- Advanced degree in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, or related engineering discipline or commensurate experience
- Experience with Clinical Research/Clinical Studies or Research and Development/Technology
- Knowledge of nervous system’s anatomy and physiology
- Scientific/Medical writing experience
- Experience in Program or Project Management
- Proficient experience using Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel, and Teams
Soft Skills:
- Ability to interact and work in a team-based environment including collaboration across disciplines
- Ability to communicate ideas, concepts, and plans both verbally and written
- Organized and detail-oriented
