In order to serve our 3 billion plus (and growing) users across some of the most popular apps in the world including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp and invest in metaverse, we need to deliver our data center infrastructure capacity at an incredible pace. We are seeking a Technology Leader to join the Strategic Planning & Analytics Team to lead strategic and tactical development and management of data center capacity plans to help accelerate efficient growth at the intersection of our software services and physical infrastructure.
In this role, you’ll lead the development of Facebook’s global data center capacity plans, including driving infrastructure scaling strategies, and oversee the design of capacity management processes and systems focused on optimizing the health for one of the fastest growing infrastructures in the world. You will be accountable for driving investment decisions that cover billions of dollars, that set the direction for Meta’s Infrastructure and help scale our data center footprint efficiently to enable our product and service growth needs. You understand the technical details, as well as being able to think big picture, lead multidisciplinary complex capacity analysis initiatives and assess trade-offs, and influence partner teams to challenge the status quo. You’ll lead a number of ambiguous problem sets, and use data driven analysis and trade-off assessments techniques to advance decision making with our Infrastructure Leadership and Executive Team. You’ll also work closely with software and tooling teams to lead capacity engineering initiatives including process design, capacity optimization and software development to support capacity management systems. This is a highly cross functional role where you will be expected to partner with software, capacity engineering, network engineering, construction, site selection, network, finance teams.
Manager, Data Center Strategic Planning Responsibilities
- Drive both strategic and tactical data center capacity planning, scaling, and management for one the largest infrastructure fleets in the world.
- Leverage deep technical expertise, and develop new data center capacity strategies that focus on scaling capacity, driving improvements in reliability, and achieving cost and operational efficiency include reductions in deployment times, improvements in data center power utilization, service placement optimizations, and lifecycle total cost of ownership savings.
- Own the data center tactical deployment and capacity engineering strategies including help drive direction for lifecycle management, optimal hardware spread, buffer management, ensuring software and service goals are achieved.
- Build and expand a world-class data center capacity planning and engineering team through hiring, mentorship, guidance and career development.
- Lead partnerships with Data Science, Capacity and Performance Engineering, Supply Chain, Infrastructure Software, Data Center Construction & Operations, Network Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering and Systems & Tooling teams to find the optimal way to scale Facebook infrastructure.
- Drive the development of next generation data-driven systems to automate capacity life-cycle management at scale. Define the project roadmap to automate and improve our capacity management at scale solutions.
- Communicate across Leadership, various functional teams and organizations, with internal and external stakeholders, to drive innovation in infrastructure capacity planning, delivery and management.
Minimum Qualifications
- 12+ years of relevant experience working in Infrastructure/Cloud/Hardware with background in Strategy, Capacity Planning, Supply Chain Optimization.
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Operations Research, Supply Chain Management, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering.
- An understanding of large scale distributed systems and capacity management processes.
- Experience leading multiple large scale cloud/infrastructure/hardware efficiency or optimization projects.
- Is a thought leader in their space and delivers ideas/thoughts that are respected across the organization. Identifies strategic objectives and goals and drives team through implementation. Experience in communicating with all levels of management.
- Experience to succeed through collaboration and working through other internal and external organizations and individuals.
- Experience working independently with minimal supervision and can lead cross-functional teams to complete projects and initiatives using judgment, experience, and leadership skills.
- 3+ years of experience leading mid-sized teams.
- Understanding of large-scale distributed infrastructure to support a global internet business.
- Experience working on ambiguous problems and managing uncertainty at a high-growth company.
- Experience in performance or capacity engineering and planning.
- Proven track record of working on and delivering against ambiguous problems and manage the uncertainty of high-growth company and build a new team and function from the ground up.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree, MBA preferred.
