As Research Associate for the IHC Core, you will contribute to the breadth of ongoing preclinical studies in support of our therapeutic discovery efforts. You will need to bring your experience in immunohistopathology expertise to support and maintain a new IHC Core function for the Alector Research organization. Teamwork and functioning within matrix structures will be important for successful collaborative efforts. 

You will be working with a Sr. Scientist and share responsibility for conducting novel and routine processes for immunohistochemistry, analyses, and image acquisition. You should feel comfortable working with teams managing the effort in start-to-finish IHC-based assessments across teams.

Key responsibilities include shared management of daily operations, participation in ongoing research projects, and coordination of projects during IHC processing efforts. 

 

During your first year, your goals will be:

  • Demonstrate practical knowledge and current techniques with Microscopy and image analysis for the pre-clinical research department
  • Enhance imaging strategy through their knowledge of programming (C++, Python, Matlab and R), machine learning, data integration and implementation of novel technologies and methodologies.
  • Share knowledge and educate teams on the current Core practices on immunohistochemistry techniques (IHC, multiplex IF, etc), imaging and computational tissue image analyses
  • Write protocols, technical reports, SOPs and develop appropriate documentation with project team(s) and collaborators.
  • Share responsibility in maintaining IHC Core that enables efficient work-flow from in vivo studies through data analytics on pre-clinical IHC specimens
  • Provide support for image capture an analysis using established software

 

We’d love to hear from you if:

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree with 2 years experience in this space
  • Breadth of experience with tissue processing with and without embedding for fresh frozen, fixed and cryopreserved, fixed for paraffin blocks
  • Detail oriented practices and able to work collaboratively on complex projects across the organization
  • Interest in learning about neuroscience and neurodegenerative disorders
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience with imaging software like Zen black, iMARIS, image J is desirable.
  • Experience coding in python, MATLAB, or R or showing the ability to learn new programming languages is plus
