About the job
The Senior Electrical Engineer as part of the product development team, designs, develops, and implements medical devices for electrical spinal cord stimulation. Within the multi-disciplinary team, you will be responsible for translating product requirements into electronics solutions for both external and implantable spinal cord stimulation systems. You will be leading DRM, Implantable Electronics Packing, Reliability, Compliance and NPI activities.
Responsibilities
- Act as a subject matter expert to establish high-level, electronic solution intent. Architect and develop technical solutions that implement new and updated product requirements for neuromodulation platforms.
- Perform functional analysis, create feasibility concepts and electronic designs.
- Employ DRM (Design for Reliability and Manufacturing) tool sets such as concept engineering, modelling, simulation and theoretical analysis, sensitivity studies, Monte-Carlo analysis, design characterization, DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly), DFT (Design for Test) etc.
- Ensure traceability between requirements, test cases, records, and reports.
- Plans and executes characterization, integration, and verification of electronics subsystem designs and components and perform risk management activities.
- Develop and implement design characterization, Design of Experiments, and automated and manual tests intended to verify system and subsystem functionality.
- Collaborate on cross functional feature teams in the realization of features and their associated testing and documentation. Team members will include representatives from program management, clinical, regulatory, operations, systems, and therapy development.
- Collaborate, discuss, implement, and review designs and decisions with engineers from other disciplines (mechanical, software, systems).
- Supervise students and support learning on the job to broaden the skill set of (junior) colleagues.
- Actively participate in the definition of best practice methods, techniques and technologies that continually improve organizational effectiveness.
- Adhere to good laboratory practices and qualify & maintain tools and equipment.
About you
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent engineering with an emphasis on analog, mixed-signal and/or RF electronics and at least 7 years of working experience
- Solid electronics design experience and understanding, with practical experience in relevant electronics design, modelling, and simulation tools and their interplay with prototype engineering and Design for Manufacturing, Assembly and Test
- Good understanding of statistics and the statistical analyses necessary to determine confidence intervals, product and process capability, process control and the evaluation of acceptance criteria
- Pragmatic attitude and eagerness for design analysis, prototype creation, confidence testing and (automated) verification testing in an agile environment
- Ability to absorb and improve existing electronics designs and hardware in the context of a fast-paced, agile development and testing process
- Experience with wireless battery charging systems and wireless communications (BLE, NFMI, MICS) and EMC is a strong preference
- Experience in the field of (verification) test automation and the Python programming language is welcomed
- Experienced with IEC 60601-1 standards and their application
- Experience with ISO 13485 or equivalent standard is nice-to-have
- Good understanding of risk management and its implications
- Capable and comfortable with working in a strictly regulated environment, where product development, documentation, and reporting are subject to internal and external standards applicable to medical device development
- A team player who enjoys collaborating with other engineers with varying levels of experience and expertise both in- and outside the company
- Affinity with and experience in a trainer role to support the development and growth of (junior) colleagues and students
- Results oriented, hands-on, and thriving well in an innovative, practical and performance driven environment
