Position Summary

The Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative (SFARI) and the Simons Foundation’s Neuroscience Collaborations are seeking a Student and Fellow Program Manager to create, facilitate and implement career development programming for scientists at various career stages, from undergraduates through faculty, who are supported by Simons Foundation grant programs across neuroscience and autism science. 

SFARI and the Simons Foundation’s Neuroscience Collaborations currently administer a range of grant programs, including senior investigator awards and programs to support early-career scientists and undergraduates just entering research. Reporting to the Senior Scientist, SFARI & Senior Scientist/Administrative Director, Neuroscience Collaborations, the Program Manager will be responsible for creating and executing a strategic plan to provide wrap-around support for fellows participating in the foundation’s Independence award programs and undergraduate research programs by organizing professional development, community-building, engagement and other activities to support each of these diverse cohorts. The Program Manager will also be responsible for working with leadership to evaluate current offerings, potentially assist with the creation of new programs and analyze career development grant portfolios. The Program Manager will seek to actively enhance diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts and work collaboratively with scientific and program teams. In all of the activities, the Program Manager will work closely with the Simons Foundation’s Flatiron Institute to make all career development opportunities available to postdoctoral fellows and undergraduate students in Flatiron Institute research programs.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

• Develop and execute on a strategic plan to foster communities of funded independence fellows and undergraduate fellows.
• Lead and/or facilitate professional development workshops, retreats and other events aimed at career development and community-building.
• Enhance DEI efforts at all levels through outreach, mentorship training and fostering a climate of inclusion and belonging.
• Conduct portfolio and impact analyses of career development awards and career development programming, including tracking the careers of awardees.
• Evaluate the competitiveness of current activities, community needs, and resources, and investigate efforts with similar programs at other organizations.
• Consider opportunities for program evolution and creation of new career development programs to augment grant programs across neuroscience and autism science.
• Contribute to the development of content for program websites and social media.
• Partner with Communications to develop appropriate outreach materials for existing and planned initiatives.
• Collaborate closely with Simons Foundation Flatiron Institute to include Flatiron Institute postdoctoral fellows and undergraduate students in career development opportunities.
• Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned or required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education 

• Master’s degree or PhD is preferred
• Experience in a related field such as neuroscience or molecular biology is helpful

Experience

• Experience working on academic career development and workforce issues
• Broad working knowledge of the academic training landscape from institutional and trainee perspectives
• Prior experience working on diversity, equity and inclusion efforts
