About the role:

Our Research and Development team is building the future of the operating room for urologists.  As the industry leader in surgical kidney stone treatment, we are on a mission to empower surgeons to treat more cases, more efficiently, with better outcomes – helping patients get back to their daily lives. 

 

Our Research and Development team is all about building the future of the operating room and office for urology patients and clinicians.  As a Sr. R&D Electrical Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of that mission, developing best-in-class capital systems and ureteroscopes as part of our comprehensive portfolio of solutions.  In return for your unique combination of big-picture perspective, ability to execute rigorously, and strong desire to win in the marketplace you’ll be a trusted leader collaborating with some of most dynamic minds in the business.  All in an environment that encourages people to take measured risks, learn from mistakes, and push the boundaries of engineering.       

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead electrical hardware design, development, integration, and testing for capital systems and ureteroscopes.
  • Translate high-level user needs into actionable system and technical requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional experts in a wide range of fields to solve complex engineering challenges.
  • Work with third party designers, suppliers, and contract manufacturers to deliver high quality engineering solutions at an accelerated pace.
  • Contribute to platform design approaches that enable reuse and leverage across multiple platforms.
  • Track record of strong cross-functional collaboration, influence without authority, and project management enabling highly effective project teams. 
  • Proven self-starter who runs towards critical issues, ambiguous requirements, or loosely defined challenges with a demonstrated ability to rally teams to achieve business results.
  • Lead electronics development for next generation imaging devices.

 

What we’re looking for in you 

Basic:

  • 5-10 years product development, preferably in a regulated industry.
  • Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering,  Physics, or a closely related Biomedical field.  Bachelors required, Masters preferred.
  • Excellent hands-on electronics prototyping and design skills.
  • Proven ability to formally verify designs, including debugging, troubleshooting  and failure analysis skills.
  • Proficiency using lab equipment including power supplies, oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum/signal/logic analyzers.
  • Skilled in schematic capture, modeling, and simulation tools (e.g. SPICE).

 

Desired:

  • Medical device experience preferred.
  • Experience with PCBa and Flexible circuit design and implementation experience preferred
  • Electrical safety (IEC 60601-1) and EMI/EMC (60601-1-2) experience a plus.
  • Embedded programming experience including MCUs and/or FPGAs (C, C++, Verilog/VHDL, etc.) a plus.
  • Experience with motor selection and motor controller integration a plus.
  • Passion for understanding and solving problems for end users, systems engineering mindset.
  • Experience with Design for X (X = reliability, manufacturability, service, cost, etc.) or related methodologies to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Hands-on experience managing suppliers and/or contract manufacturers.
  • Skilled problem solver, proficient in problem solving methodologies (i.e. Shainin, DOE, etc.).
  • Experience with architectures for complex systems, including defining hierarchies and interoperability, a plus.
  • Experience with signal processing and analog to digital conversion, particularly for imaging sensors, a plus.
  • Travel, up tp 10%
