General Description
The EEG technologist is responsible for performing potentially 3 different types of EEG tests; Routines, Video Ambulatory EEG testing, and/or set-up of Long-Term EEG study patients. This includes preparing the patient for testing, collecting data, and performing administrative items. The Technologist may also be responsible for data communication to servers, and equipment maintenance. These duties may be performed as part of CortiCare on-site locations, in patient homes, or in conjunction with CortiCare’s involvement in clinical trials.
Duties and Responsibilities
a. Routine EEGs:
Performs standard and complex EEGs by measuring the patient’s head, utilizing the International 10-20 Measurement System, and applies electrodes to appropriate positions. Measures electrode impedance, calibrates and adjusts EEG machine. Obtains recordings, using activating procedures such as hyperventilation, photic stimulation, and sleep. Adapts methods and instrumentation to obtain optimal results based on history, clinical observations and EEG findings.
b. Ambulatory EEGs:
EEG set-ups and disconnects can take place at following locales: Physician practice, hospital clinic, patient’s home, or on-site clinical trial location. EEG recording is long-term (up to 72 hours). Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Data Acquisition (EEG, QEEG, ERP)
- Patient/subject setup and electrode application per CortiCare established protocols
- Equipment installation and calibration
- Diligently adhering to CortiCare and/or clinical trial timelines
- Data Management
- Meticulous data entry and reconciliation skills per CortiCare established protocols
- Data Transfer
- Uploading the ambulatory EEG study and attaching the event log onto Company servers
- Troubleshooting
- Helping to ensure and resolve various technical challenges
- Equipment disconnect
- Removing, cleaning and inventorying EEG recording device from patient during the disconnect time
c. Set-Up EEG for Long Term Patients (typically hospital setting)
- Data Acquisition (LTM)
- Patient/subject setup and electrode application per CortiCare and hospital established protocols
- Equipment set up and calibration
- Technical Proficiencies
- Provide technical proficiency for basic digital EEG. EEG Technologist will utilize the 10-20 system of electrode placement to include manual measurements, skin prep, and electrode application
- Provide critical thinking and skill to recognize and correct artifact accordingly
- Troubleshooting
- EEG Technologist can successfully trouble-shoot equipment and leads appropriately
- Data Management
- Potentially provide checking of the EEG system during on-going recordings and transfer of data to reading station
Travel :
Frequent travel to Site locations. Driving or flying to the patient testing location is required, and testing will be performed in a variety of testing facilities, locations and settings.

EEG Technologists are expected to:

- Comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding Safety and infection control issues.

- Demonstrate appropriate social skills.
- Demonstrate ability to follow direction
Education and/or Experience:
Unless otherwise agreed upon, the EEG Technician should have experience across all patient demographics (neonatal, pediatric, adult).
CortiCare encourages technologist staff to continue their education. It is expected for Technologists to maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Work Environment / Physical Demands
Technologists will Lifting as many as two cases, in and out of your vehicle to the testing site. Along with moving equipment after setup of the patient to areas of the patient’s residence in order to ascertain optimal testing performance. Average case weight less than 25 lbs.
In the performance of this job, the employee may be exposed to chemical vapors such as acetone, ether, or glutaraldehyde. There may also be skin contact with these substances. The employee may also be exposed to infectious agents including blood-borne pathogens.
