Job Summary

Apply your scientific & coding skills with flexible time to make attributed technical contributions combining code and narrative text to a publicly shared MATLAB live script project in a research discipline where you have experience and fluency.

Responsibilities

This worldwide remote-work and time-flexible position will offer you a fixed-sum agreement to complete or make satisfactory progress towards a set of project goals defined to improve and advance a MATLAB community toolbox project, within a specified timeframe and with progress at one or more intermediate milestones.

This project will focus on improving a working prototype MATLAB live script that reproduces one or more figures from the associated publication for a dataset (ID 000011) on the public DANDI Archive of cellular neuroscience data. The specific project goals will involve the following types of activities:

• Editing and elaborating introductory narrative text summarizing the scientific motivation for the dataset and its associated publication
• Editing and elaborating narrative text at each code section, explaining the technical steps undertaken in that section and the outputs
• Discretionary redesign of the live script code and narrative organization, including both the main file and possible use of linked ancillary files (live scripts and/or live functions)
• Discretionary use of live controls to allow users to interactively adjust data analysis parameters modifying the figure reproductions
• Collaborating with the DANDI archive dataset contributors, the MathWorks project coordinator, and other project technical contributors

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience with MATLAB

Additional Qualifications

• Candidates for this position should be prepared to complete tax documentation documenting income from the US
• Candidates enrolled as in-session students should take time to consider whether a freelancer project is right for their circumstance
• Experience with MATLAB for data analysis in the specified discipline
• Record of academic accomplishment in the specified discipline

Favored candidates would have some or all the following qualifications:

• Experience authoring scientific computational notebooks (such as MATLAB live scripts, Jupyter notebooks, or similar) combining code and narrative text
• Experience with GitHub and source control
• Experience with the Neurodata without Borders (NWB) data standard
• Experience with scientific communication such as (but not limited to) academic journal publications for work in the specified discipline
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
