Summary

At Apple’s Biomechanics Research Center we bring together area experts across a range of disciplines to deliver science-backed design insights for the development of hardware products. In this role you’ll design and carry out innovative, rigorous experiments that drive rapid, systematic, iterative product design. We’re looking for researchers who are ready to be expert collaborators on an interdisciplinary team answering questions about physical interaction with Apple products. The Human Factors researcher will be responsible for designing and applying methods to understand subjective experiences such as comfort and ease of use.

 

Key Qualifications

  • Advanced skills in conducting human factors research, including ability to build rapport and elicit participant communication
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to translate research findings into product recommendations and insights for interdisciplinary teams in a concise manner
  • Excellent technical communication skills and ability to make a case with data

 

Description

  • The Human Factors Researcher will be responsible for framing research questions, conducting human studies, interpreting results, and communicating actionable insights. This role will require both expertise in the development of robust interview and survey methods and curiosity about how those tools can translate to product design choices. The researcher is expected to be highly skilled in data analysis, interpretation, and communication. An in-depth understanding of and broad appreciation for human behavior and movement is a must-have. Since this group will work directly with product designers, it’s an essential skill for the researcher to communicate scientific findings in a concise and actionable manner.

 

Education & Experience

  • Advanced degree (PhD or MS) or 3+ years of industry research experiences in a relevant field, such as: human factors, cognitive science, psychology, or qualitative methods.
  • Experience designing and executing studies on topics such as comfort, product acceptance, ease of use.
  • Track record of delivering scientific results on a schedule. History of collaboration on interdisciplinary teams, especially with designers or engineers.
