Associate Scientist, Mass Spec & Analytical Development

Use your scientific skills to help us achieve our mission of saving lives by curing neurodegenerative diseases. You will identify and provide support for ongoing programs and your work will be central to Alector’s strategic goals. You will be influential in championing and developing Alector’s culture and values.

As an Associate Scientist, you will be part of an Analytical Development Team and will work closely with Analytical team members. Communication and dedication are key aspects required in this role. You will have the opportunity to work with cross-functional members across multi-discipline departments and multi-levels including cell culture, upstream, purification, discovery, pre-clinical, and research.

The successful candidate should have a strong foundation and be very experienced with mass spectrometry operations and methodologies as well as be familiar with various chromatography methods such as Affinity, SEC, IEX, HIC, RP-HPLC. 

 

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Mass spectrometry analysis of early and late-stage, research biomolecules and biologics in support of internal discovery efforts and phase appropriate IND/BLA filings.
  • Assist in perform analytical method developments for various or leading drug candidates.
  • Carry out formulation stability studies for new molecules from research to critical reagents.

 

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • A BS in scientific discipline e.g. chemistry, biochemistry, with 8+ years of related experience or a MS in scientific discipline e.g. chemistry, biochemistry, with 4-8 years of related experience
  • 3-5 years of hand on experience in mass spectrometry.
  • Strong hands-on experience using Mass Spectroscopy (specifically Orbitrap) to characterize monoclonal antibodies, bi-specific molecules, and new modalities.
  • Hands-on experience in HPLC chromatography development work including RP, HIC, IEX, SEC.
  • Hands-on experience in protein characterization and formulation stability.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, execute and analyze experiments independently.
  • A team player attitude, willing to work together, and share in knowledge and work accomplishments.
  • Managerial / mentorship experiences is a plus.
  • Strong and effective interpersonal skills with manager, in a team environment, and with cross-functional groups.
  • Create and develop a culture of open communication and trust.
  • Strong organizational skills and a strong attention to details.
  • Ability to prioritize work to support drug development, meet deadlines, and timeframes.
  • Effective work ethics and dedicated to completing challenging projects.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Effective technical writing skills for authoring technical documents, including Comparability Studies, GLP Studies, Qualification Studies.
  • Prepared and presented scientific results at meetings.
