Position Summary
We are seeking a candidate who is passionate about advancing novel therapies for the treatment of neurodegenerative disease. This highly motivated individual will serve as the in vivo pharmacology lead for preclinical discovery projects(s). S/He will also function as the subject matter expert for translational biomarkers and will be tasked with leading the effort to develop and transition biomarker assays to support clinical studies.
This position reports to the Senior Director, Neuroscience and will be located at our headquarters in New Haven, CT.
Principal Responsibilities
Key responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
- Function as in vivo pharmacology lead on neuroscience discovery projects and work cross-functionally to develop and implement preclinical study plans and strategies
- Develop assays to measure target engagement and pathway engagement in preclinical models and provide data to drive structure-activity evaluation and guide lead identification, optimization & development.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for translational science and lead efforts to develop and validate clinical biomarker assays
- Liaise with internal/external experts, and CROs to establish collaborations and projects to execute biomarker studies and identify and implement new biomarker assay platforms/technologies
- Educate, support, mentor, and grow scientists, in either a supervisory or matrix leadership capacity
- Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills to facilitate internal decision making and communication and to support regulatory filing and external presentations
Qualifications
- Proficiency in lab techniques and principles of in vivo pharmacology, including familiarity with histologic assessment and CNS neuroanatomy.
- Solid understanding of neurodegeneration and/or neuroscience
- Experience in assay development/validation and knowledge of various biomarker assay platforms (e.g. ELISAs, MSD, SIMOA, IHC, capillary immunoassays)
- Ability to work and problem-solve independently and to effectively prioritize efforts, manage time, and balance work between bench and desk
- Demonstrated sustained performance and accomplishment, including publications in top tier journals
Education
- Ph.D. in neuroscience, cellular and molecular biology, or pharmacology with a minimum of 5-8 years related experience; may include post-doctoral experience. Focus on drug discovery preferred.
