Position Description: 

Vocera is looking for a Sr. Linux System Administrator to join our dynamic team. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring the infrastructure; collaborating with other team members to develop automation strategies and deployment processes. As a hands-on technical team member, you will ensure the suitability performance and reliability of the engineering-based technology infrastructure across all geographies. This position will report to the Sr. Manager, IT Infrastructure.

 

Responsibilities

  • You will contribute to Infrastructure roadmap plans, process improvement and provide timely progress reports and visibility metrics
  • Help tune performance and ensure high availability of infrastructure
  • Provide support for product releases for shared environments and equipment used in research, development, verification, validation, training, implementation, and support
  • Lead the troubleshooting, escalation, and resolution of engineering technology infrastructure defects that affect system performance and availability and do so with mitigated disruption and effective communication to impacted teams
  • Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders to maintain and grow a quality technology infrastructure that meets FDA requirements and fosters a helpful clinical experience for customers
  • Develop and maintain configuration management solutions
  • Document and maintain technical processes 

 

Competencies

  • Solid network and troubleshooting and logical/analytical skills with the ability to drill down to isolate and determine cause and solve complex technical issues
  • Well-disciplined in the use of proper security practices including host, application, network, firewall and physical access control
  • Excellent knowledge of Linux operating system, particularly in troubleshooting, performance, and security contexts
  • Strong scripting skills: Python, shell(/bash), Perl, Ruby, or similar
  • Strong “cloud “/virtual environments experience: AWS, VMware, OpenStack, others
  • Large scale deployment/ scalability experience
  • Ability to identify performance issues within the J2EE architecture, Load balancers, Tomcat, Weblogic, Database, Operating system, Network, Software (Java) and Hardware
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining services such as Apache, MySQL, nginx, etc.
  • Ability to build and monitor services on production server with knowledge of servers and switches
  • Resourceful and able to solve complex problems through adapting technology and a thorough understanding of product architecture
  • Good verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems or related field or equivalent
  • RHCE, RHCSA, GCUX, or similar certification preferred
  • 8+ years’ experience in an enterprise infrastructure position or similar engineering environment
  • Proficiency with Windows Server products, Vmware, ESXi, vCenter and Cisco network technologies.
  • Demonstrable experience across iOS/ android devices, firmware, WLAN technologies, (including network traffic analyzers and low-level troubleshooting)
  • Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes containerization tools as well as Jenkins, Terraform, Ansible, vRealize, Build and automation.
  • Deep understanding of data center fundamentals and operations
  • Familiarity with Agile/Kanban development methodologies preferred
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies
  • Minimal travel up to 5% is required
  • Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination required
