The Gillespie lab is seeking a research assistant to manage lab infrastructure and support ongoing experiments. The lab is interested in how neural activity in the hippocampus relates to the memory impairments seen in the context of advanced age and Alzheimer’s disease. We use in vivo electrophysiology to record from hundreds of neurons as rats perform complex memory-dependent tasks. Read more about our research here!

We’re looking for an organized, enthusiastic, reliable team member to:

• Support experimental procedures: neural implant construction, rat behavioral training, and data collection
• Oversee the purchasing, inventory management, and organization of lab equipment and supplies
• Update and maintain lab protocols and ensure compliance
• Manage and oversee the rat colony (wildtype and transgenic animals)

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, biology, engineering, or a related field;
• Comfort and willingness to work with animals (rats);
• Ability to do some manual tasks requiring fine motor coordination and dexterity;
• Strong communication and organizational skills

Desirable qualifications:

• Experience with animal research, coding ability (Python or Matlab ideal)

The position will be listed as a Research Scientist/Engineer 2, grade 7; details here, salary commensurate with experience. Minimum two-year commitment required.
