The Position

The Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) department at Genentech is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join the Metabolomics team within the Bioanalytical (BA) group. Our team’s mission is to empower drug research, discovery and development process across Genentech by producing valuable, high-quality metabolomics & small molecule biomarker analysis through the use of cutting-edge technologies and high throughput workflows in support of biochemical assessments and biomarker discoveries.

 

Responsibilities:

  • To develop and routinely employ bioanalytical methods for the qualitative and quantitative metabolomics analysis of endogenous small molecules/peptides in various biological matrices using mass spectrometry to support biomarker research, discovery & development.
  • Ability to perform global and targeted metabolomics data processing, statistical analysis, and data interpretation.
  • Ability to collaborate, communicate and present metabolomics results to cross functional teams at Genentech.
  • Ability to publish in peer reviewed journals and present at conferences.

 

Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree with relevant industry experience of 0-2 years. Master degree or Bachelor degree with relevant industry experience of 4-10 years.
  • The candidate should have strong background in Bioanalytical Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS and LC-HRMS) with hands on experience and proven ability to design, develop and routinely employ bioanalytical methods for the quantitative and qualitative analysis of endogenous small molecule metabolites.
  • Hands-on experience in developing liquid chromatography assay and sample preparation techniques such as PP, LLE, SPE, Derivatization etc.
  • The candidate will be preferred if having demonstrated mass spectrometry-based targeted and global metabolomics experience.
  • Prior experience with Shimadzu UHPLC, Sciex QTRAP, Thermo QE, and/or metabolomics data analysis software tools will be desired.
  • Experience with various LCMS data processing software such as Chromeleon, Tracefinder, Xcalibur, Compound Discoverer, Analyst, MultiQuant is required.
  • The candidate should be able to develop, validate, and troubleshoot LCMS methods/instrumentation.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Able to apply analytical skills and judgment in assessing the quality of assay data and assay performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, as well as in a team setting. Must be self-motivated, able to multitask, and meet timelines efficiently and productively.
