The Position
The Opportunity
The Data Architect is an experienced professional with a wide range of both technical and soft skills. This role will be responsible for the expansion of Roche’s data pipeline and acceleration of the delivery of new data products using the variety of tools available as part of Roche’s next generation data platform. This role will also be responsible for optimizing data architecture for cross functional teams across a variety of business areas as well as serving as a subject matter expert for technical tools within their domain and educating others on the team on best practices in their implementation. This role will support business systems architects, business systems analysts and data scientists on strategic data initiatives. This role will be expected to operate in a self-directed manner in alignment with the organization’s strategic vision. This role will support the data architecture needs of multiple teams, systems and products. This role should be passionate about the idea of leveraging data to enable data-driven decision making as well as innovating new data architecture ideals to support the next generation of data products and initiatives.
Job Facts
- Gather, analyze and document business and functional data product and system requirements. Translate needs of the business, into applicable system design solutions via prototyping and configuration. Set and influence cross-divisional strategies and business processes.
- Develop, communicate and ensure that internal development and system standards and best practices are being utilized within the department. Establish guidelines and policies to ensure consistency, ease of support, accuracy and protection of data. Document systems and provide regular feedback on project task status to users, peers and management.
- Understand strategic data needs of the business and translate into data system architecture and design. Partner with internal and external departments to improve processes, detail of data, and business applications. Assist in providing estimates of task effort and resource skills needed.
- Act as team lead for areas of expertise providing guidance, training, and education to staff including duties of instructing, directing and checking the work of others. Consistently demonstrate Roche Leadership/Mentoring competencies.
- Build, maintain and enhance business applications and solutions with a focus on maintaining integrity of the business application, data and systems.
- Guide others in applications & tool development methods and processes, and implementation of those methods through business process analysis and re-engineering.
- Serve as technical and team lead for system design and best practices.
- May flex into short-term engagements within cross-functional squads to provide value in areas of the organization where focused, data-related project efforts are beneficial.
- Is generally assigned more complex and difficult assignments. Typically works with greater discretion and latitude. May provide team members with technical advice and guidance.
- Provides recommendations to management on findings and to ensure data and goals are in adherence with standard procedures and policies.
- Analyzes data captured to assess program effectiveness. Identifies opportunities to advance the organization through the data maturity model and coordinates with BPO and leadership to execute improvement strategies.
- Serves as internal resource and subject matter expert to colleagues and is a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues connected to data used for reporting and analytics purposes.
- Provides support for end users to ask questions and share issues. Evaluates the issues and owns the issue until resolution which can include logging a ticket or submitting a change request.
- Responsible for performing regression testing of critical data sets within upstream data platforms as well as testing required to support system change requests and defect fixes.
Who You Are
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or other related field or equivalent work experience
- 8+ years related experience
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years professional experience with MS SQL or similar RDBMS architecture
- 1+ year of professional experience with the following tools and methodologies preferred:
- Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouse platform
- Talend
- DataOps
- GitLab
- Data Vault
- Immuta
- Azure Active Directory
- Comfortable presenting complex, technical topics in an actionable manner to senior leadership
- Solution-oriented mindset and positive attitude
Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.
For Colorado-based applicants, the expected salary range for this position is $120,000 – $170,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits listed below.
