About the job
Product Manager
In this role, you will help represent the voice of the customer, providing input to both internal and contracted engineering teams while also paving the way for product success by mastering the understanding of the sales and marketing strategy to take the product to market. You will work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the product meets their needs and help guide evaluation to show that the product meets those needs by designing and executing benchtop, pre-clinical, and clinical testing alongside appropriate experts, such as clinical consultants.
Motif is a startup, so this role will involve one to extend beyond the strict outline in this job description as the whole company will generally jump on and help in various operational capacities.
What is Motif?
Motif is a medical device startup based in Houston, Texas. We are designing and developing minimally invasive electronic solutions for serious mental health conditions. Powered by our patent-pending methods for wireless power and data transmission, our goal is to create the smallest implantable brain stimulator and deliver therapies to patients by 2024.
We are a seed-stage startup with funding from both venture capital firms, grants, and private angel and founder investments.
Where are we going, and how can you help?
We are currently completing the development of our first minimally invasive neural stimulation system and preparing for future versions with additional functionality based on our platform technology.
We are looking for a Product Manager to help drive the early stage stakeholder focused development while keeping an eye on these future opportunities as well as future go-to-market strategy for the product.
The Right Partner
Motif is being built by highly dedicated people with passion for neurotechnology, clinical product development, and putting the patient first. We are looking for people with the same energy.
Does this sound like you?
- Do you want to create a future where technology enables better mental health care?
- Do you like testing hypotheses, solving problems, and moving quickly?
- Do you believe that openness and honesty are key to team success?
If yes to the above, then you may love working with Motif.
In this role, you will…
- Work with the CEO, internal engineering team, external engineering contractors, design houses, CROs, market research contractors, clinical and regulatory contractors, and external stakeholders such as clinicians and patients to help complete your work, including all of the work below, which is largely collaborative.
- Write medical device design documentation. Specifically, you will work on user needs and product requirements, but in the early stages of the company it is reasonable to expect to contribute to other documents such as the design plan.
- Write medical device test protocols and/or reports to show that the device meets specifications and user needs
- Conduct alpha and beta testing with stakeholders, gathering stakeholder feedback on device design
- Produce user documentation such as instructions for use
- Develop go to market strategies with a focus on clinical sales and marketing. This includes estimating market size
- Interact with software such as Google Suite/Workspace, Clickup project management tools, a medical device quality management system, internally built engineering test jigs and setups, and more.
Working with Motif offers opportunities for professional development, networking, and public recognition.
You Will Need
- Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills. Among these, writing is particularly important. You should be able to create documentation that clarifies work for engineers. This means you should be capable of writing clear requirements and being able to translate user needs into actionable and testable items.
- A familiarity with regulated environments or medical device design practices
- Strong market research capabilities. This includes the ability to navigate academic studies and clinical studies that explain or capture prevalence and incidence of disorders, as an example.
It is a bonus if you are:
- Familiar with project management software and practices
- Familiar with medical device design documentation
- Have experience in wireframing tools, 3-D mockups, or similar items to help demonstrate and explain concepts
- Comfortable with United States insurance terminology and how to investigate or find pricing/reimbursement information, NCDs, and how the payment pipeline works for implantable devices
Benefits
- Compensation will be a blend of salary and equity that is commensurate with experience
- Open to partial or full remote work
- Participation in our 401k plan
- Health/Medical Insurance
- A laptop/workstation when you start
