Summary

The Training Assistant position is an excellent opportunity for a professional with one year of experience to support SfN members and trainees as they advance the understanding of the brain and nervous system and help to improve the lives of people worldwide. This position supports committee activities, provides administrative support to SfN programming such as correspondence and scheduling, and supports the scientific training initiatives of the Society.

 This position primarily supports the day-to-day operations of the department’s professional development portfolio, which include two grant funded programs: the Neuroscience Scholars Program and the Foundations of Rigorous Neuroscience. This position also assists with the programmatic activities of the Trainee Professional Development Award. The candidate should have an interest in working with diverse populations within the US and abroad.

 

 Essential Job Functions include the following.   Other duties may be assigned.

  • Support online education and community building by administering webinars and monitoring discussion forums.
  • Coordinate with finance division to disburse travel funds and process reimbursements.
  • Provide quality customer service in administrative tasks, including answering the telephone and e-mail inquiries, arranging travel, and other activities.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Excel to track participant activities and create tables and graphs.
  • Provide organizational support for various committees and subcommittees. This includes taking meeting minutes, corresponding with leaders, organizing travel, and other activities as needed.
  • Support the Trainee Professional Development Award by working with department members to curate Neuronline resources and develop quarterly e-mails to awardees.
  • Provide logistical and organizational support for Advocacy and Training Department-related events at the SfN Annual Meeting – including the Neuroscience Scholars Program Mentoring Event; the Diversity, International Fellows, Trainee Professional Development Award, and Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience poster sessions; the Diversity Reception; in-person workshops; and other events as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

 Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree ideal
  • At least 1 year experience of previous working and/or extensive volunteer experience with active utilization of Microsoft office tools and positive customer service/support engagement interactions.
