Faze Medicines is focused on understanding how the dysregulation of RNA and protein condensates contributes to disease and leveraging this to develop novel medicines for patients with unmet need. This is an exciting opportunity to lead programs supporting an array of small molecule cancer drug discovery projects in a fast-paced startup environment.
We are seeking a highly motivated scientist interested in developing next generation cancer therapeutics. The successful candidate will lead and drive efforts as part of a dynamic and collaborative cross-functional team supporting target identification, validation, and small molecule drug discovery for oncology targets. The ideal candidate will be an independent thinker with excellent communication skills who will provide insights towards experiment design and interpretation. The ideal candidate will have a track-record of project leadership, deep scientific rigor and drug discovery experience in oncology.
Responsibilities
- Interrogate the biology of cancer biomolecular condensates to yield new mechanistic insights
- Lead projects providing key insights, experimental design, execute and overseeing a diverse range of activities including target ID & validation, target prioritization and develop cell-based assays for small molecule lead optimization and mechanism of action studies
- Work effectively with an interdisciplinary team of computational biologists, medicinal chemists and biochemists to advance lead asset programs
- Design and implement biomarker assays, cellular functional assays, and establish PK/PD efficacy relationships in relevant cancer in vivo models
- Interpret, summarize and present research findings to multidisciplinary project teams
- Proactively review literature for latest scientific findings, ideas, and methods/technologies
Qualifications
- PhD in Cell & Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology or related field plus >4 years experience in biotech or pharma (leveling will be commensurate with relevant years of industry experience)
- Experience contributing to and leading small molecule cancer drug discovery programs from discovery towards the clinic
- Experience in novel target identification and progressing nominated targets to drug discovery projects
- Experience mentoring individuals or small teams in cancer cell biology
- Proven success collaborating with interdisciplinary teams of computational biologists, medicinal chemists and biochemists
- Success managing and coordinating teams (internal or external CROs)
- Experience in designing and implementing genetic or pharmacological screens using an image based readout is a plus
