The Vice President of Clinical Development, Neurology will lead one or more development programs involving drug candidates in Alzheimer’s Disease, Frontotemporal Dementia, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, and other diseases. You will be responsible for clinical strategies and plans for our lead molecules and help ensure the successful execution of our studies.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Clinical Development, the Vice President of Clinical Development will be a member of the Clinical development leadership team. The direct responsibilities of this position will cover all aspects of early clinical development Phase 1 and Phase 2 studies and may extend into Phase 3. This includes responsibility for advancing clinical programs through study planning and execution, development of biomarker strategies, as well as interpretation of data from these studies. You will interact with multiple levels of management within Alector, key external partners in the medical and scientific community, along global regulatory authorities.

 

The Vice President of Neurology has the following responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for programs that integrate the individual’s extensive knowledge in basic and clinical science, neurology disease areas with knowledge from the medical community around the world.
  • Design and execute development programs in neurodegenerative diseases including AD, FTD, and ALS
  • Manage the preparation and/or review of data listings, summary tables, study results, study reports, clinical/regulatory/safety documents, investigator brochures, and clinical development plans
  • Integrate the scientific rationale, regulatory and payor requirements, input and advice from medical and patient advocacy groups, product development plan, and commercial goals to build a strategic framework for the Clinical Development Plan (CDP).
  • Establish ambitious clinical development timelines, incorporating key decision points and Go/No Go criteria for each CDP.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with program counterparts in Research, Regulatory, Biomarkers, Clinical Operations, and Biometrics for Clinical execution.
  • Collaborate with Medical Affairs in developing educational materials and publication strategy.
  • Engage with leaders, investigators, collaborative groups, and other specialists in scientific and clinical dialog around study design, study conduct, and interpretation of clinical results

 

You will have the following mix of professional and personal characteristics:

  • Minimum 12+ years of Biotech/Pharmaceutical Industry experience, including 6+ years in Clinical Development; experience in rare diseases a plus
  • Deep understanding of basic science related to neurodegeneration and immunology
  • Capacity and willingness to work successfully across disease areas.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills, including strong decision-making, conflict resolution, and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated strategic and innovative thinking
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and organizational skills

 

Education:

  • D. with Neurology training in degenerative CNS disorders preferred.
