Augmented Reality Visual Designer (Contract/ Part-Time)

Cognixion, a neurotech startup building the world’s first assisted reality augmented reality + brain-computer interface, is seeking a designer to help define and design the 2D/3D visual identity for upcoming Augmented Reality initiatives. This individual will work closely with our Design Team, Product management, and Marketing to achieve our goals.

The contract would we part-time (10 – 12 weeks, 20 – 40 hours per week). Location can be anywhere in US/Canada, but within an hour drive of Toronto, Santa Barbara, San Diego, or Miami is preferred for the contractor to have access to our designers with hardware.

 

Requirements:

  • 3 – 5 years of professional working experience with clients and deliverables in software visual UI/UX design. – Shipped at least one Augmented or Virtual Reality application, in which they contributed a substantial amount of the 2D/3D design.
  • Shipped at least one Web or Mobile application, in which they were a visual design contributor.
  • Highly skilled at 2D graphic UI design, especially branding, color, font, iconography, and illustration. Possesses mastery of Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar applications.
  • Have worked in Figma, Sketch, Zepplin, or similar tools to build out a 2D component UI library (buttons, panels, etc.) for other designers to utilize.
  • Skilled at 3D visual user interface design, especially 3D modeling, and handing off assets to Engineering. Should have experience with Maya, Cinema 4D, Blender, or similar applications.
  • Familiarity with user interface design, interaction design, and user experience design.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, always communicatively and meeting deadlines.

 

Desired / Nice-to-haves:

  • A passion for accessibility, inspired by a lived experience, a previous project that addressed users with disabilities, or products intended for those with hardships.
  • User/market research skills are highly desirable. Familiarity with User-Centered Design and Design Thinking principles and practical experience planning and executing user research studies as an individual contributor.
  • Familiarity with upstream product marketing activities to identify customer needs, and pain points, and then developing/testing product concepts are nice to have.
  • Familiarity with Unity, Unreal, or another game engine, especially with transitioning in concepts from a 3D graphic design tool for prototyping and/or eventual engineering integration.
  • Motion design skills are appreciated.
  • Instruction design / print experience (e.g., product manuals). InDesign knowledge welcome.
