Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute
Interdisciplinary Scholar Awards

Knight Initiative for Brain Resilience Scholar Awards

We are pleased to announce the call for applications for the 2023 Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute’s Interdisciplinary Scholar Awards as well as the brand new Knight Initiative for Brain Resilience Scholar Awards.

Applications are due on October 14, 2022.

Our Programs

  • The Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute Interdisciplinary Scholars Award
    • Since 2015, our Interdisciplinary Scholars program has supported innovative young researchers who are engaging in highly interdisciplinary research in the neurosciences, broadly defined.
    • Our scholars have backgrounds in basic and clinical neurosciences, biomedical sciences, physical sciences, social sciences, engineering, education, law, business and humanities, but all are engaged in cutting edge research that will advance our understanding of the mind, brain and behavior.
  • The Knight Initiative for Brain Resilience Scholars Award
  • The Phil and Penny Knight Initiative for Brain Resilience, housed within the Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute, is proud to launch the Knight Initiative for Brain Resilience Scholars program, which will support innovative young researchers to generate paradigm shifting insights to brain resilience against aging and neurodegeneration.

Program Elements

Selected scholars will:

  • receive two years of funding and a discretionary fund for travel to conferences and other research-related expenses
  • meet for monthly lunches to share ideas and discuss approaches to scientific and career challenges,
  • visit each others’ labs to learn about different research techniques and areas of study,
  • practice communicating their research to scientific and general audiences.

Diversity equity and inclusion

Our scholars programs bring together cohorts of postdocs representing the broad range of demographic, experiential and scientific diversity. Women and postdocs from groups underrepresented in the neurosciences are strongly encouraged to apply. Wu Tsai Neuro is also pleased to provide parental leave for its scholars.

The goal of the Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute is to understand how the brain gives rise to mental life and behavior, both in health and in disease. Our research community draws from and informs multiple disciplines, including neuroscience, medicine, engineering, psychology, education and law. The discoveries that arise from these collaborations will transform our understanding of the human brain, provide novel treatments for brain disorders, and promote brain health throughout the lifespan. And the creative, cross-disciplinary mindset we foster in our trainees is cultivating the next generation of neuroscience research.
