About the position
The DeepCamera MRG is working on innovative, efficient, and resilient deep-learning based imaging/video and computer vision pipeline/applications tackling the existing drawbacks in all the pipeline stages, e.g., acquisition, encoding/decoding, manipulation/visualization and evaluation.
The successful candidates will have the opportunity to conduct fundamental and/or applied research in the aforementioned areas. Where applicable, candidates may also participate in the preparation of project reports and deliverables, research proposals for funding, software development, and travel abroad for dissemination activities. Furthermore, successful candidates will be encouraged to publish/present their research results in prestigious international conferences and journals.
The available positions are within the context of a new project where Deep Learning based-computer vision techniques will be used for the development of a vision system that it will be integrated into existing UAVs system. This will include the development of Deep Learning based techniques for the specific computer vision tasks requested in the project and its deployment into embedded system at edge.
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Team Leader of the DeepCamera MRG Dr. Alessandro Artusi.
Responsibilities of Research Associate:
- Support the development of deep learning techniques
- Optimization of deep learning techniques to work on embedded system
- Testing on real world data
General qualifications and requirements
- Postgraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g. Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Colour Science, Image Processing, Computer Vision, Computer Graphics) from an accredited institution.
- Computer literate.
- Language requirements: Excellent written and oral English-language skills will be required.
For non-EU applicants a work permit will be required
Profile of the ideal candidate – select relevant qualities required for specific role:

- Strong organizational, communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, having the ability to deal confidently and politely with enquiries.

Specific requirements for Research Associate positions – MRG specific:
- Strong computer programming skills (C/C++, Python and Nvidia based embedded system)
- Knowledge of Deep-learning and usage of the existing Deep-learning environments (Tensorflow, Pytorch etc.)
- Previous experience in Deep Learning based classification/object detection and semantic segmentation
