Head of Quantitative Science
Remote · Full time
What you will be doing:
Beacon Biosignals is seeking a Head of Quantitative Science to oversee the discovery and deployment of scalable EEG-based neurobiomarkers atop Beacon’s Platform. As a Head of Quantitative Science, you’ll work directly with executive leadership and Beacon’s data science teams to help equip Beacon and its partners with meaningful and necessary brain health metrics to drive the next-generation development of precision therapies for brain disease. This role reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer. Beacon’s robust asynchronous work practices ensure a first-class remote work experience, but we also have in-person office hubs available located in Boston, New York, or the Bay Area.
What success looks like:
- Establish practices to optimize both the automated and manual feedback loops that power the execution and delivery of data science at Beacon
- Structure those feedback loops to ensure that data science outputs fold cleanly back into Beacon’s core platform, enabling our pace of scientific discovery to compound with each new trial, dataset, and model
- Identify critical growth areas for individuals, teams, and domains within Beacon, and build out cross-functional collaboration channels that catalyze that growth
What you will bring:
- You’ve acted as a managing lead spanning multiple data science teams simultaneously within a biopharma context
- You’ve grappled with the complex organizational dynamics that constrain and accelerate analysis efforts across the different phases of drug development
- You write a lot and read even more. Information-gathering is ingrained in every aspect of your work. Your decisions incorporate feedback from stakeholders, your reports, collaborators, and historical context that you intentionally mine over time
- You have a keen sense for the bandwidth limitations, technical debt, and non-iterative processes that drag a project down, and you’ve employed effective strategies for preventing/remedying these issues in the past
- You love seeing teams and individuals level up. You’re dedicated to helping direct reports overcome challenges and seize opportunities that are crucial to self-growth
- You recognize the distinction between the functions of technical and organizational leadership. You strive to work in a manner that embodies both
- You push for transparency and objectivity when evaluating your projects, your reports, and hiring process. You recognize the symptoms of implicit bias and strive to account for them
- You’re highly cognizant of inter-team dynamics and the effects of Conway’s law on system design. You pursue team topologies that are well-shaped to address both proactive and reactive organizational goals
- You’re comfortable working in a remote environment, and have demonstrated success doing so in the past
