We are looking to hire a Legal Counsel to join our Legal Team. In this role, you will take charge of the drafting, advising and negotiating on a range of commercial agreements.

We have already made a number of high profile breakthroughs towards building artificial general intelligence and we have all the ingredients in place to make further significant progress over the coming year.
The role
- Structure, manage, draft and negotiate agreements associated with DeepMind’s research and operational activities. This includes data licence agreements, inbound services agreements, hardware procurement agreements, technology acquisition, software EULAs, collaboration agreements, and technology R&D agreements.
- Advise the business on legal queries as needed, including summarising and communicating legal concepts and helping assess different levels of legal risk.
- Support strategic research efforts by spotting and advising on legal issues and risks
- Coordinate with external counsel both in the UK and globally and coordinate specialist advice where required.
- Support internal contracting processes and policies, including deal review and approval processes.
- Build positive relationships with cross-functional clients across our offices and advise them on legal issues and risks, streamline their contracting processes, and ensure a smooth interaction with Legal.
About you
- You have experience advising on a range of commercial matters, with a good understanding of intellectual property and privacy issues.
- You’re a strong communicator, able to flex your communication style to reach different audiences
- You are experienced partnering with senior stakeholders on strategic matters
- You’re interested in innovative technology, including in the field of artificial intelligence research
Minimum qualifications
- Proven experience in private practice and/or an in-house team.
- Qualified solicitor in either England and Wales (preferred) or a US attorney
- Experience in negotiating, drafting and advising clients on technology-related commercial agreements.
Preferred qualifications
- Prior in-house experience at a technology and/or research development organisation working side by side with the wider company to counsel on a variety of legal issues.
