Description
The Research Assistant will be responsible for assisting with multiple aspects of a NIH-funded Center grant examining sleep, circadian rhythms, brain function, mood, and behavior in adolescents. Duties include data collection (including wEEG & PSG), saliva collection, direct work with 13-15 year-old research participants during overnight lab visits. This person will collect regular saliva samples, help administer surveys, and spend time entertaining and socializing with research participants who are taking part in a research project which involves sleep deprivation and time isolation. The research associate will work closely with research staff and the staff of the Sleep and Behavioral Neuroscience Center. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and possesses strong interpersonal skills including: teamwork, dependability, flexibility, and leadership. The position will involve overnight and weekend hours and requires availability during University of Pittsburgh student breaks, including summer break.
This position is grant funded.
Purpose:
The Research Assistant provides support as needed to the department. Performs literature searches and assists in the preparation of professional manuscripts and grant proposals and will also be responsible for data collection, entry, and management.
Responsibilities:
- Organize references and materials for research projects and content areas.
- Maintain professionalism in all interactions with stakeholders and internal staff.
- Conduct literature searches.
- Provide support for grant proposal and manuscript development and submission.
- Participate in meetings, trainings and seminars, both internally and externally.
- Perform data collection and entry.
- Assist in data management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field, or current enrollment, with some experience in research environment.
- Experience in the area of public health, psychology, applied research or behavioral health is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal skills.
- Detail oriented.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and the ability to learn various software packages as needed.
