The Position

The Genentech Bioinformatics department seeks a highly motivated computational biologist to lead the analysis of high dimensional data from profiling and screening of in vitro cellular models to study and understand the underlying biology driving neurodegenerative diseases. The applicant will work on a highly collaborative team with colleagues in our Functional Genomics, Cellular and Tissue Genomics, Neuroscience, and Bioinformatics departments to utilize computational approaches to develop, characterize, and analyze data generated from cutting edge high throughput screening approaches to support our therapeutic pipeline. The applicant will leverage existing computational workflows and, in some cases, may need to aid in the assessment of emerging computational methodologies for the analysis of high dimensional data sets.  The applicant will provide strategic direction and leadership, and be expected to develop an independent research program supporting Neuroscience efforts in the in vitro models space. Publication of scientific results is a key component of success in this role.

Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology or similar field. Postdoctoral experience is desirable, but not required.
  • Proven experience analyzing and integrating high dimensional genomics data types such as single cell RNA-Seq, single cell ATAC-Seq, and functional genomics screens leveraging CRISPR technologies.
  • Record of scientific achievements as evidenced by a strong publication record in top tier scientific journals.
  • Proven expertise in neuroscience or oncology and an ability to translate computational findings to study neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Deep curiosity about the biology of disease and the development of cellular models such as iPSCs.
  • Demonstrated expertise in languages such as R or Python for computational analyses.
  • Excellent scientific communication skills: verbally and in writing; with computational and non-computational audiences, in informal 1-1 settings, team meetings, and formal seminars.
