The Opportunity  

Ripple currently has hundreds of customers in academia, industry, and abroad who require help configuring, debugging, and programming their Ripple hardware and software to conduct groundbreaking neuroscience research. We are looking for a passionate, high-energy, hardworking Research Support Engineer with excellent interpersonal skills to help those customers (and to support our badass sales team too!)

To be successful in this job, you will need to be comfortable having an opinion, and you will need to be able to communicate your opinion in a collaborative way. You will also need to be comfortable wearing many hats – from programming to system debugging, to prototyping, and running experiments. You will also work directly with our sales and engineering teams. 

This is a full-time, salaried position starting as soon as possible. This position is required to be on-site at our office in Salt Lake City, Utah due to the need to utilize specific, custom engineering equipment to perform core duties. Occasional hybrid work (from Salt Lake City) will be permitted after an initial training period.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Communicate with customers about their experimental setups and ask insightful questions to figure out the root cause of issues.
  • Debug experimental setups from electrical grounding to hardware/software configurations and more.
  • Adequately convey your thoughts/ideas via various communication mediums (email, phone, video chat, in-person, etc.)
  • Interpret, describe, and design the basic pinout interfaces between input and output devices.
  • Analyze high channel-count, large duration, time-synchronized electrophysiological data signals (EEG, ECoG, LFP, Multi-Unit Activity, etc.)
  • Aid in Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) process for products in the field.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and regulatory to help with our sales efforts, prototyping/debugging, and pipeline management.
  • Perform verification and validation testing on new device iterations and software updates.
  • Travel (up to 20%) worldwide to install newly purchased systems, address technical issues, and/or exhibit products at conferences and trade shows
  • Provide training to customers globally both remotely and on-site on the use of our hardware and software products.

 

Key Qualifications 

  • A Master’s degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, computer science, neuroscience, or related technical field, or a Bachelor’s degree in one of the above fields with at least 3 years professional experience working with electrophysiology systems.
  • 2+ years experience using multi-channel electrophysiology systems.
  • 2+ years programming in MATLAB, Python, or similar languages.
  • 1+ years experience debugging electrophysiology systems (commercial or custom).
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate with professionals of varying backgrounds (doctors, scientists, clinicians, and engineers).

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Signal processing and/or machine learning experience (looking at frequency spectrum, coherence, spike sorting, using PCA, etc.) 
  • PhD in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, computer science, neuroscience, or related technical field.
